Not the best movie in terms of the subject, but you have to give credit to Bill Murray. He really harnessed the Hunter persona, whether at fault to the art or not. I love this scene because when Hunter was pushing a deadline (always) he would type random things and send the piece through while unplugging and replugging the mojo wire. Then yell at Jann for the faulty shit they gave him to work with. Ahh..procrastination at it’s finest….and most creative. That’s something I can relate to.
“I’ll just lash together a few raw facts. A bit of old Negro wisdom” Haha. Actually, Hunter never had less than 2 editors assigned to him at RS, and during his later (more drug influenced) years, he would absolutely have ledes lashed together to make part of a piece. Interestingly, he would come up with ledes specifically for this purpose. What I love about that is the fact that ledes are the most compelling part to write, the part that packs a punch. I can imagine short bursts of writing in a cocaine frenzy, and don’t wonder why this writing style (at the time he chose to use it) might have been the most fun out of all. Or perhaps, the most reasonable.
On another note, as far as the production of the movie, it stinks. Bill Murray is the only reason this film is worth watching.
